The primary role of the BDM is to manage his/her team. He/She needs to ensure that all targets set are met by his/her team, these include sales, forecast, new clients, reports, etc. He/She is also tasked to prospect for new clients and grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new products or solutions to them. He/she should coordinate the activities of others responsible for developing business for the company to ensure everyone is aligned. Strategic planning is a key part of this job description, since it is the business manager’s responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming in to the company. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions the company can provide, and of the company’s competitors.
